
It’s the blockbuster release of Sanjay Dutt that Bollywood has been eagerly waiting for since long. Ever since news of his early release on February 25 was made public almost a month ago, all of Sanjay’s friends breathed a huge sigh of relief. Baba as Sanjay Dutt is fondly called will finally walk out a free man on Thursday after having spent close to three years in Yerwada Central Prison.
For many, Baba’s release signals the return of the glorious old party days. A scribe, who has covered the infamous night parties of B-town, said, “Sanjay was known for being a great host and parties will happen for sure now that he is back.” However, industry insiders state the actor could have turned a new leaf and will be changed man and far more sober on his return. Bollywood though will turn out in large numbers to meet and greet Sanjay Dutt at his residence. One can expect to see his buddies Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn, Rajkumar Hirani, Ranbir Kapoor, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and others dropping in to meet Sanjay. As he walks out of the iron gates tomorrow between 9-10 am, Sanjay Dutt will be greeted by his loved ones from the family including wife Maanyata and his twins Iqra and Shahraan. To avoid intense media glare, the actor’s family has reportedly charted a flight to fly him back to Mumbai. (Also read: Sanjay Dutt’s remission as per rules: Judge who had sent him to jail)
Once back in the maximum city, Sanjay Dutt will have a busy itinerary. He has plans to visit the famous Siddhivinayak temple to seek blessings of Lord Ganesha post which he will visit his mother Nargis’ grave. Bunty Walia, one of Sanjay Dutt’s closest pals told us that he will be waiting to receive the actor at his residence. “I am really happy that he has finished his jail sentence and is coming out. Glad to have him back. There are no celebrations planned. I am just happy that he is coming back and will be amongst us and there will be no sword hanging over his head anymore.”
Sanjay Dutt was lodged in the Yerawada prison in May 2013 to undergo remainder of his sentence after being convicted for illegal possession of arms under the Arms Act.
Sanjay Dutt was arrested on April 19, 1993, for possession and destruction of an AK-56 rifle, which was a part of cache of arms and explosives which landed in India prior to the serial blasts of March 1993.
During the investigation and the marathon trial, he spent 18 months in jail. On July 31, 2007, the TADA court in Mumbai sentenced him to six years’ rigorous imprisonment under the Arms Act and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000. In 2013, the Supreme Court upheld the ruling but reduced the sentence to five years.
During his imprisonment, he was granted parole of 90 days in December 2013 and again for 30 days later. (With PTI inputs)
