Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui ‘extremely thrilled’ over Asif Kapadia’s Oscar win

Actor Irrfan Khan says he is thrilled that British filmmaker of Indian origin Asif Kapadia’s “Amy” was named the Best Documentary Feature at the 88th Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

“Amy” is based on the life of late singer Amy Winehouse.

Irrfan, who worked with Kapadia a decade ago for “The Warrior”, said in a statement: “I am extremely thrilled for Asif. He is an amazing filmmaker and I am happy that we had the opportunity to work together in the past.

“His film ‘The Warrior’ was a turning point of my life. It’s overwhelming to know that finally he got the much deserving Oscar.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who acted alongside Irrfan Khan in a short and silent film “By Pass” (2003) that was produced by Kapadia, took to Twitter to express his happiness over the filmmaker’s big win.

“You deserve this totally, proud to be associated with you, way to go. Cheers to your success #Amy #oscars2016 @asifkapadia,” the “Badlapur” star wrote.

“Amy” is a poignant examination of singer Amy Winehouse’s life and her tragic death at the age of 27.

Winehouse died in 2011 following a battle with drug and alcohol.
