Aamir Khan today (March 14) rubbished reports of Dangal getting preponed to become an Independence Day release. Clarifying on the same Aamir Khan told reporters: “We are releasing Dangal during Christmas as planned.”
Elaborating on how rumours of an Independence Day release could have taken birth, Aamir Khan said, “I had said that Independence Day would be an ideal day to release Dangal because it is a patriotic film. However, I had never said we will be releasing it on 15th August. The film wouldn’t even be ready by then.”
Aamir Khan, who plays the role of an ageing wrestler in Dangal, also lavished praises on the sport. “Wrestling is a good sport. The best thing is in this sport is that you don’t injure anyone. Like in boxing, you hit a person. But in wrestling, you don’t physically injure the person. You get the better of him and defeat him. I too don’t like physically injuring somebody. You don’t end up inflicting much physical harm through wrestling. Also, wrestling involves a lot of mindplay and strategy. You have to be a sharp human being to be a good wrestler.”
Aamir Khan, who has gained weight for the role of Mahavir Phogat, has lost that extra weight and was seen sporting a lean look at the press conference held on his 51st birthday today.
Dangal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari of “Bhoothnath Returns” fame, stars Aamir in the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat, who taught wrestling to his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat.

Aamir, who has been sporting a handlebar moustache, said he is yet to decide on the final look of the character. “Right now, I am transforming my look. So, I don’t know what the final look will be like. I am growing my hair and beard, ultimately, the final look will be decided a week before the shooting,” he said.
The actor added “Dangal” is about women empowerment and girls, who fulfill the dreams of their father.
The film, which is Aamir’s co-production as well, is evidently much-anticipated by the fans. It will be the actor’s release after a gap of two years. He was last seen in blockbuster “PK”. (With PTI inputs)
