Actor Hrithik Roshan has landed into a controversy for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of a community. The Archdiocese of Bombay now wants Hrithik to reconsider a tweet he had posted in January this year.

Speaking to IndianExpress.com, Fr Nigel Barret of the Archdiocese of Bombay said, “We have been made aware of the tweet. We honestly think Hrithik needs to reconsider the kind of tweet that he has made.”

On January 28, Hrithik had tweeted, “There r more chances of me having had an affair with d Pope dan any of d (I m sure wonderful) women d media hs ben naming. Thanks but no thanks (sic).” (Read: Hrithik Roshan sent notice for his ‘Pope’ tweet)

When asked if the Church would consider legal options against the actor, Fr Nigel replied in negative. “I think when we have an opportunity to communicate with him, we are sure he would see the wisdom of it and that should resolve the issue. We are trying to get in touch with him and I am sure once we do that it should resolve the issue. I am sure he is a mature individual and he will understand that it is something that could have hurt a whole lot of people and in all probability he may not have meant it as a hurtful or harmful statement. I am sure we will be able to resolve it.”

Meanwhile, Hrithik was sent a legal notice over the tweet by Abraham Mathai, the All India President of the Indian Christian Voice. Demanding that he delete the tweet and apologise for hurting the sentiments of Christians around the world, Abraham told IndianExpress.com, “Out of 6 billion people in this world, why did he take the name of the Pope to compare. Through his tweet, he has suggested that the Pope is gay. Pope is our religious head and someone who practises celibacy. We want him to apologise and delete the tweet. We are not bothered about Kangana Ranaut and his problem with her.”

Here is what Hrithik had tweeted:

Well, looks like the ball is in Hrithik’s court now. Let’s wait and see how the actor responds.
