There is something incredibly touching about Nagesh Kukoonor’s Dhanak. Touching because of its storyline that revolves around the journey of a young girl in Rajasthan and her determination in helping her blind brother get back his vision before his ninth birthday.
The newly released trailer beautifully captures the journey of the two kids as they set out, hand-in-hand walking miles across unfamiliar terrain to meet one man who they feel can help them when even God himself has failed, Shah Rukh Khan. The kids learn about Bollywood superstar shooting in far away hamlet in Rajasthan and embark on the arduous journey and while on it they run into different set of people including a sadhvi who advises them to ask something more worthy than SRK by way of boon.
The scene stealers of the movie are undoubtedly the young kids essaying the role of Pari(Hetal Gada) and Chotu(Krrish Chhabria). While Pari is effortless in her innocence, Chotu’s blind act is refreshing to watch for it is devoid of the usual stereotypes commonly associated with blind people. He walks, speaks, jumps and behaves like any other normal kid with the only exception being that he can’t see.
Directed by the redoubtable Nagesh Kukoonor, Dhanak has already impressed many at various prestigious film festivals including the Berlin one where it bagged big honours. “This dynamically-directed film delivers joy and heartbreak in equal measure – the young brother and sister at its heart and the unbreakable love between them is irresistible… Filled with colour, magic, music, spontaneity and a plenty of emotion, this film lives up to its name and delivers a celebration of life to savor long after the end credits roll!” wrote the International Jury.
Back home, tweeting his best wishes for the movie and to the kids was none other than SRK. (Read: Shah Rukh Khan impressed by ‘Dhanak’s trailer, gives best wishes to the kids)
Dhanak will open in theatres across India on 10 June.
