Shoma Banerjee, mother of television actor Pratyusha Banerjee who allegedly committed suicide earlier this month, has moved the Bombay High Court alleging it was not a suicide but a murder committed by her daughter’s partner Rahul Raj Singh. Her petition sought transfer of investigation to the Mumbai Police Crime Branch. On Wednesday, her lawyer said in the court of Justice N H Patil and Justice A M Badar the local police were carrying out a “misleading” investigation in collusion with Rahul.
“The investigation and its direction seems to be misleading with an intention to save the accused. Under the circumstances, a thorough and proper investigation is very much required to meet the ends of justice,” said the petition.

The court will hear the petition on Thursday (April 21).
The prosecution had Monday told Justice Mridula Bhatkar that Singh was not cooperating with the police in its investigation. Seeking additional time, it also said the state government had decided to engage a special public prosecutor to contest Rahul’s pre-arrest bail application.

On April 1, Singh had reportedly found the door of the apartment he had been sharing with Banerjee locked from inside. According to his statement to the police, he had asked a help to enter the apartment from the balcony. After getting inside, the statement said, he had found Banerjee’s body hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta.
