With several villages across Maharashtra like Latur, Jalgaon, Nanded and Aurangabad facing severe drought crisis, the makers of upcoming movie Banjo starring Riteish Deshmukh, decided to rework a Ganapati song sequence that would require several litres of water.

Riteish Deshmukh, who hails from Latur, didn’t feel right to use excess water for filming the song sequence since he was aware of the drought situation across many regions around his hometown and unanimous along with the film’s crew decided to rework the scene to avoid wasting a lot of water.

“I hail from Latur and am fully aware of the drought situation currently across many regions in and around my hometown. In such a scenario, it dint feel right for us to use excess water for filming a particular scene, it was a unanimous decision between the producer, director and me to rework the scene,” Riteish Deshmukh said.

Banjo producer, Krishika Lulla has also voiced her concern about the severe drought crisis in Maharashtra and understanding the current situation, they decided to opt for a scene that would avoid excess use of water.

“The sequence originally had Riteish dancing with his band in a rain sequence during the Ganpati song and this would have resulted in wasting a lot of water. Being responsible citizens, and understanding the seriousness of the water crisis in the State, we opted for dhol, gulal and dance instead, to create a festive revelry without compromising the look or feel,” Krishika Lulla said.

In Banjo, Riteish will be sporting his long locks and play the role of a band member for the first time on screen. The film also features Nargis Fakhri, who plays the role of a DJ from New York city who is in Mumbai.

Banjo has been directed by Ravi Jadhav and produced by Eros International.
