Makers of Conjuring 2 are developing a spin-off of the movie, titled The Nun, which will be centered around the villain of the original.

James Wan, the director of Conjuring and Conjuring 2, and Peter Safran, who produced both the movies, are reuniting to produce the spin-off, said The Hollywood Reporter.

Fresh off the success of The Conjuring 2, the film company is spinning off the villain of the supernatural thriller, the demonic nun, into her own movie.

David Leslie Johnson, who co-wrote Conjuring 2, has been hired to pen the film about the demonic nun.

What is noteworthy about the demon nun character is that she didn’t exist until about three months before Conjuring 2 opened, as she was only added during last-minute re-shoots.

The Nun will be the second spin-off from the Conjuring series, following 2014’s Annabelle.

A city-based trust has contributed Rs 80,000 for the medical treatment of ailing Bollywood playback singer Mubarak Begum.

Begum, 76, has been hospitalised twice in the last two months after complaining of weakness and stomach pains.

Dr Ravindra Joshi Medical Foundation yesterday handed the aid to her family members, upon Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Vinod Tawde’s request, an official in the minister’s office said.

Begum, who sang the evergreen song Kabhi tanhaiyon mein hamari yaad ayegi from the 1961 movie Hamari Yaad Aayegi, has not been keeping well for the last few years.

She lives in a one-bedroom house in the Mumbai suburb of Jogeshwari. Her health deteriorated after the demise of her daughter last year.

Her son, who works as a driver, and his wife live with her.

Actor John Stamos is joining season two of Fox’s Scream Queens as a series regular.

The new season is moving from college campus to a hospital where some of the most fascinating and bizarre medical cases are under observation, said The Hollywood Reporter.

The 52-year-old Fuller House star will play Dr Brock Holt, the hospital’s brilliant, but secretive, head surgeon.

Stars returning for new season include Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, Glen Powell and Niecy Nash.

Stamos work on the show will reunite him with creator Ryan Murphy, with whom he worked on Glee.

Scream Queens season two will premier on September 20.

Actor Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s restraining order hearing has been postponed by the judge.

The case will now be heard on August 2, 15 and 16, reported E! online.

While there have been reports that Heard, 30, has been avoiding giving a deposition with Depp’s lawyers, according to a source, the allegations are untrue.

“She wants to go to court. But both the times when Johnny’s attorneys requested to depose Amber they didn’t follow the appropriate court protocol.

“It was Depp’s attorney, Laura Wasser’s request to continue the domestic violence restraining order hearing. Wasser gets one request for a continuance and she requested it so therefore the hearing will be continued postponed. The temporary restraining order has been reissued and will remain in place until the next court hearing,” the source added.

Earlier this week Heard retracted her initial request for temporary spousal support.

There is much talk about Aamir Khan’s fitness regime for his two looks in the upcoming film Dangal. The actor plays the role of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat in the biopic, and had to first gain weight and then lose it all to portray the different stages of Phogat’s life.

During a media interaction on the sets of Dangal in Ludhiana, Aamir spoke about his fellow actor Salman Khan’s body and fitness levels, with whom he has often been compared. “I’ve always been a fan of Salman as an actor, and of his body as well. He has had a lean, muscular and cut-up body from the very beginning of his career. So, I’ve always been a fan of his body, and his fitness. I don’t think my body is as good as his. For me, he is the ideal, and I try to come close to him,” said the PK actor.

When asked about Sultan, yet another wrestling film that’s due to release this Eid, Aamir said he was eagerly waiting to watch it as well, and the two films are very different. He went on to draw comparisons between the two films, as well as differences. For one, we know we’re seeing Salman in a langot in Sultan, will the audiences be treated to a similar avatar from Aamir?

The first trailer of Great Grand Masti, the third installment of the adult comedy franchise Masti, has been released. With this, the trio – Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani and Vivek Oberoi are back with their sexual humor and double meaning jokes.

While the Masti series has retained its three leading men, the makers have roped in Miss Universe 2015 contestant Uravashi Rautela to raise the oomph factor along with three more hotties Shraddha Das, Mishti and Pooja Chopra. This time the movie takes the trio of – Ritesh, Aftab and Vivek into a small town where they encounter a ‘femme fatale’ in the form of Urvashi Rautela, who slowly turns out to be their worst nightmare. Urvashi is everything they had dreamt of but their Masti comes to an end when they realize she is actually a ghost.

Masti, which released in 2004, was one of the first adult comedy film in Hindi cinema. It gave an insight into the lives of three men who are keen to have an extramarital affair to spice up their lives. After nine years, the makers followed it up with Grand Masti.

Directed by Indra Kumar, the film will be releases on July 22.

A little boy, who has lost his eyesight, and his sister Pari set out across Rajasthan on foot. Their mission, spearheaded by Pari’s determination, is to restore Chhotu’s sight.

It’s hard not to be moved by these kids and their heart-warming story. Kukunoor clears the biggest hurdle by lucking into the right performers for his young pair — both the little boy (Krish Chhabria), a die-hard Salman Khan fan (he wears the agate-stone bracelet on a wrist just like his beloved Bhai) and the slightly older girl (Hetal Gadda), who plays the SRK-loving sister, make us believe that they are indeed, siblings.

If Chhotu had been asked to look straight ahead, instead of keeping his head constantly cocked to one side, and had been a little more loosened up while delivering his lines, it may have served the character better. But still, this is a real boy, and the interactions between the children lend the film real charm.

The other problem, and this is the bigger one, is exotic Rajasthan being peddled in the name of naturalism — the ‘leheriya safas’ are too pristine, the clothes are too ‘costumey’, the huts the children live in are too constructed, they look like sets. A female bandit who looks like she’s walked straight off the ramp fiddles with a pretty pistol. The Rajasthani accents are mixed up too, and really, not everyone has to have a “sa” added to their names. Blame it on those TV serials.

But Kukunoor should know better, because he has been in these parts before (remember Dor?). Fortunately for him, and for us, the children are winsome enough to keep us with the film, and while some of the characters are clunky, a couple do come off as funny as they are meant to — a ‘saadhvi’ (Vibha Chibber) with a painted face, who is obviously a fraud, is a hoot.

Then there’s the solo backpacker who’s walking around the globe for world peace. He’s white, of course, and wearing a splash of ‘baatik’, and working up to quite the stereotype when you hear him say his name out loud. And I am Douglas Adam (remember that name from The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy?) he says, and you laugh out loud.

These two make up, somewhat, for the Wicked Aunt, the Evil Pundit, the Noble-Hearted Merchant, the Wise Old Woman, and the Eccentric Man, all playing to type.

But Chhotu keeps the rhythm going. And the best tune comes from Hetal, who is an amazing little performer, displaying just the right beats, who doesn’t keep a foot wrong. She is the real star of this enterprise.

And, yes, there is a rainbow at the end.

The last couple of weeks have not been without much drama for Bollywood film ‘Udta Punjab’ and its makers. After emerging victorious with a single cut, ‘Udta Punjab’ released on Friday to an anxious audience.

Even as the film released, Pahlaj Nihalani,CBFC chairman, who ordered 13 cuts for the film – the total of which came out to be 89 cuts – congratulated the filmmakers and wished them success.

“Want to congratulate makers and cast of the film. I hope it goes on to be a huge success,” he told news agency ANI.

Although congratulatory, the comments of the censor board chief seem jarring considering the ongoing war between the film fraternity and the CBFC. The certificate given to the film has ‘passed by Hon’ble High Court, Mumbai’ stamped on it, hinting at the displeasure and the non-involvement of the CBFC.

Controversy did not leave the film as on Wednesday, it was leaked online, with over 700 websites hosting it. Interestingly, the copy of the film leaked online came with a ‘for censor board’ water mark.

While Nihalani denied allegations that the board may have leaked it, the film fraternity came out strongly in support of Anurag Kashyap, who also wrote an emotional post on Facebook asking the audience to wait for the pirated copies until after the film has released.

Nihalani’s comments today seem to be an attempt to douse the ongoing fire. But if the CBFC continues to function as the ‘censor board’, this war may not be dying out very soon.

Udta Punjab has got off to a flying start on day one of its release in Mumbai.

The movie that revolves around Punjab’s drug abuse delighted movie goers to such an extent that we didn’t come across even a single adverse reaction.

A multiplex that we checked into witnessed almost 60% occupancy for the first show with an equal mix of male and female audiences. Viewers heaped praises on the hard hitting reality of substance abuse portrayed in the movie and how it left young boys and girls destroyed in Punjab. Said a viewer, “The director has made sure to display the shock value relating to drug abuse well enough without making scenes look vulgar or sleazy.” (Udta Punjab movie review: Shahid, Alia starrer is worth all the fuss)

Coming in for special praise for their performances were Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor. Alia’s marvellous portrayal of a poor Bihari migrant who is forced into drug addiction left viewers stunned. Shahid Kapoor’s junkie rockstar act earned him big appreciation from cinephiles thereby effectively wiping away the blot of Shaandar. Diljit Dosanjh and Kareena Kapoor too were loved by viewers but the scene stealers were Alia and Shahid for the aam junta.

Every viewer we spoke to unanimously opined that the controversy generated by the CBFC had made them curious to catch the film as soon as possible. While adverse reactions were literally nil, a couple of viewers did make it a point to note that the usage of Punjabi in a Hindi film should have been kept minimal.

With viewers giving Udta Punjab a thumbs up on Day One, the movie looks set to fly high in the days to come.

Riteish Deshmukh may have featured in many adult comedies, but actor is not embarrassed about any of his work.

The 37-year-old actor has acted in adult comedies like Kya Kool Hai Hum, Kya Super Kool Hai Hum and his latest Great Grand Masti.

When asked how his son, who is one-and-a-half years old, will react to his movies when he grows up, Riteish said, “When I do films, I do it because it is important for me how I feel about films. I am sure as an actor there are some movies which he can watch two years from now and some after 18 years.”

“Let him watch them, if he likes them fine, if he doesn’t that’s also fine. I am not embarrassed about any of my work,” he said.

The actor was talking to reporters at the trailer launch of Great Grand Masti on Thursday (June 16).

Riteish, 37, said he has worked in several diverse movies, like the raunchy comedy Grand Masti, Marathi action film Lai Bhaari and the thriller Ek Villain.

On being quizzed if his adult comedies might make the actor’s Marathi audience sad, Riteish said the viewers have been kind to him so far.

“As an actor I get an opportunity to do various films, adult and naughty comedy being one of them. I don’t look down upon any genre. I am happy that ‘Grand Masti’ was a successful film, that’s the reason we are coming back with this. I am happy that Lai Bhaari was successful too. Audience has been very kind to me,” he said.

Great Grand Masti is the third installment in the Masti franchise. The film also stars franchise regular Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani.

The Housefull 3 actor says while there may come a saturation point for him in doing adult comedies, newness in the subject can always make the work interesting.

“Of course there can be (saturation point). The idea is, everyone does realize while doing a film that there could be a saturation point, but when you have something new to offer, there is new humour.”

The Indra Kumar-directed film, also starring Urvashi Rautela, is set to release on July 22

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif has praised “Udta Punjab” calling it a “beautiful” film but said it is extremely tragic that the movie was leaked online.

The 32-year-old “Fitoor” actress, who watched the film at the special screening here last night, was impressed with the performances of Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.

“The director is passionate about the story he chose and he has done justice to it,” Katrina added.

The film stars Shahid as high-on-drugs rockstar Tommy Singh while Alia is seen as a Bihari migrant, who is an aspiring hockey player.

Katrina says the incident is a big tragedy as an immense amount of hardwork has gone behind a film.

The actress joined other Bollywood celebrities including Aamir Khan, Karan Johar and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who appealed the audience to
watch the movie only in theaters.

“I think this is a big tragedy. There is an incredible amount of work which has gone into the film. When you will see the film, hopefully in the cinema hall, you will appreciate it. I would urge people to not watch it online.”

Actor Sidharth Malhotra says the Hindi remake of the Hollywood actioner Rambo has not been confirmed yet.

It was reported that the official remake of the hit series Rambo, which featured Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone, was initially offered to Bang Bang! star Hrithik Roshan but that did not materialise. And now, Sidharth is being considered for it.

Asked about the remake, Sidharth told IANS from Miami: “I’m an ardent fan of the Rambo series. However, nothing is confirmed yet.”

The film, said to be part of a three-film project, is being planned by Siddharth Anand.

The Student Of The Year star is currently shooting for an untitled film in Miami with actress Jacqueline Fernandez.

Choreographer-director Remo D’Souza says he has not cast actor Tiger Shroff in the dance-based film ABCD 3.

“ABCD 3 is next year. The news is wrong… I have not cast anyone till now (in the film),” D’Souza told IANS here.

Asked if he has anybody in mind for the upcoming film, he said: “Right now I am concentrating on A Flying Jatt and after that I will be working on the film with Ajay Devgn and Sooraj Pancholi.”

D’Souza, who is returning to the small screen as the super judge of the second season of Dance +, has directed the first two instalments of ABCD.

The first part, ABCD: Any Body Can Dance, featured Prabhudeva, Ganesh Acharya, Kay Kay Menon, Lauren Gottlieb, Punit Pathak, Dharmesh Yelande and Salman Yusuff Khan.

ABCD 2 had a starry factor as it featured Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor among many others.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, who has made films like Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal and Buddha in a Traffic Jam, says quality of content will not matter in the Hindi film industry unless it matters to the stars.

Asked if content has taken a backseat in Bollywood, where filmmakers are more concerned about the numbers game, Agnihotri told IANS: “I think in the last ten years, I have never seen anybody bothered about content.”

“Content means a film that makes a difference, it means it says something. I don’t think content matters at all. Content won’t matter unless it matters to the stars. Producers are helpless people… They don’t dictate or guide content. It is dictated purely by stars.”

Agnihotri’s recent film, a love story titled Junooniyat, hit the screens on Friday. He says it’s the most difficult genre.

“I am very nervous. I have never been nervous with any of my other films because love story is the most difficult genre.”

“The most difficult things in the world is to touch anybody’s heart. It looks very simple because even I used to criticise the love story genre, but let me tell you… I think we need more love stories,” Agnihotri added.

He, however, is not sure he will make another love story.

Junooniyat features Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam in the lead.

Ludhiana girl Sufi Gulati, who has earlier featured in Punjabi film Munde Kamaal De, will soon be seen in Bollywood movie Luv Ke Funday. She says she’s looking forward to make a mark in Hindi filmdom without running after anyone.

Luv Ke Funday, produced by Faaiz Anwar and Prem Prakash Gupta, is directed by debutant Indervesh Yogee. It is releasing next month.

Sufi, who has no film connection, says it was always her dream to become a movie actress.

“My folks asked me to complete my education first and then try to choose any vocation for myself, as they rightly felt that I would be secure in life only if I am well-versed in education,” Sufi said, adding that she studied fashion designing before coming to Mumbai in search of work.

Luv Ke Funday landed into her lap thanks to its director, who introduced Sufi to Anwar.

Talking about her role, Sufi said: “I play Riya, a rich but simple girl who is in charge of her own business empire. Riya is in a live-in relationship with a young boy. The film shows the ups and downs in Riya’s life.”

She says the producer played a major role in motivating her to give her best shot.

“When I gave my dates for the shooting, frankly I did not know whether I would be able to act properly and face the camera. When I told Faaizji that I wasn’t sure whether I could act and was confused, he boosted my morale by telling me that he had ample confidence in my capacity to act.

“He made me understand the nuances of acting by making me go through a workshop. I shot well and was happy,” said Sufi, who is confident that her emotional role will leave an impact.

Is she also keen on acting in TV serials?

“Though right now I am not acting in even a single TV serial, if only the opportunity arises, I would not hesitate to grab any offer to be part of a TV show.”

For now, she is focused on making a name for herself in the film industry.

“I do not want to run after anyone or either go ahead of anyone or be behind anyone but to have a separate identity of my own and last in the film industry,” she concluded.

Actors Anjali and Jai, who were last seen in the 2011 Tamil romantic-drama Engeyum Eppothum, are reuniting for a yet-untitled romantic horror film in the language.

“We have immense respect for Anjali as an artiste. Her screen presence is amazing and this film demands the best from her. It was an unanimous choice to have her on board,” the film’s director Sinish said in a statement.

The teaser also introduces viewers to the film’s main antagonist played by Taiwanese actor Winston Chao.

The 35-second teaser ends with the lines from Rajinikanth, announcing to the world, “Tell him I have come. That I have come back!”

Directed by Pa. Ranjith, the film also features Dhansikaa, Ritwika, Kishore, Dinesh and Kalaiarasan.

The film is slated for worldwide release on July 15.

Actor Emraan Hashmi has embarked on a new journey as a producer with his home banner Emraan Hashmi Films.

“I’m really excited to turn producer in collaboration with Tony D’Souza, who is an extremely talented filmmaker and a great friend,” Emraan said in a statement.

The Murder actor shared that he is looking forward to presenting audiences with some great content, with equal entertainment value.

The actor previously collaborated with D’Souza for Azhar. The film narrates the highs and lows of Azharuddin’s life as the captain of the Indian cricket team for most of the 1990s, being tainted by a match-fixing scandal in 2000, and getting banned for life.

D’Souza says he is happy to join hands with Emraan for the new venture.

“After the success of Azhar, Emraan and I are happy to join hands on this venture. While we cannot disclose much at this juncture, we are finalising the script and the casting,” D’Souza said.

Director Shakti Soundar Rajan says his next Tamil directorial with actor Jayam Ravi is not a sequel to their own Miruthan.

Earlier this year, the duo worked together in Tamil cinema’s first zombie film Miruthan.

“It’s true we’re coming together for a new project but it’s not Miruthan 2. We are working on something new and definitely not run-of-the-mill. Since the scripting work is going on; it’s too early to even comment on the genre. But I assure you that it will be the biggest film in Jayam’s career,” Raja told IANS.

“Not just budget-wise, but also in terms of scale, this project will be big,” he said.

If everything goes as planned, the project will go on the floors later next year.

The film will be bankrolled by Hitesh Jhabak.

Singer Phil says his upcoming autobiography will make fun at the many death hoaxes that have swirled around him for years.

The 65-year-old has decided to title the book Not Dead Yet and promises to tell honestly about his three failed marriages, his alcoholism and his ill health in it, reported Female First.

It will be published by Century in hardback, audio and Ebook form on 20 October.

“This autobiography has been on my mind for a few years, and I decided that now was the time. Things had happened in my personal life that caused me to take stock,” said Colins while announcing the book news.

“Throughout, there have been lots of highs, and more than a few lows. I’m being completely honest about all of them, embarrassingly so in some cases. Some things might amuse people, some will surprise them. Horrify them, even,” he said.
