Fawad Khan says that he had no choice but to refuse Rajkumar Hirani’s blockbuster “PK” since he had already given his commitment to his upcoming film “Kapoor & Sons”.

Actor Fawad Khan says that he had no choice but to refuse Rajkumar Hirani’s blockbuster “PK” since he had already given his commitment to his upcoming film “Kapoor & Sons”.

“When I was approached by the filmmaker, I completely lost my mind because I got such a good opportunity. But unfortunately I could not commit as I had already given my commitment to ‘Kapoor & Sons’. I only let any opportunities go when I am aware of all the aspects, but I regret it when I have to leave an opportunity due to commitment issues, which is in the case of ‘PK’,” said Fawad in an interview for “Kapoor & Sons”.

The Pakistani actor was offered the role of the Pakistani character in the film, who falls in love with Anushka Sharma’s character. The role then landed into Sushant Singh Rajput’s lap. The film, starring superstar Aamir Khan, went on to become the highest-grossing film in the history of Hindi cinema, collecting more than Rs.300 crore at the box office.

Fawad’s debut film “Khoobsurat” had released just three months before “PK” and he could have two releases in 2014 if he had done “PK”. The gap between “Khoobsurat” and “Kapoor & Sons” wouldn’t have seemed so big, considering he didn’t have any release in 2015.

“Kapoor & Sons”, directed by Shakun Batra and also starring Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra, is releasing on March 18.

Actor Jimmy Sheirgill says the Indian film industry does not encourage movies made for children and that it is important to support such films to help them relate to important issues.

“I’m supporting a children’s film. We need to promote it as much as we can because we see that usually children’s films are not given that much encouragement in our industry,” said Jimmy.

“People should support such films, especially a film which gives a very big message,” said the actor who was present here at a college festival on Friday to promote his film ‘Shortut Safari.’

‘Shortcut Safari’ is a non-animated film featuring kids who set off on a school trip to a national park but lose their way into the forest. They face real wildlife and real dangers there.

Jimmy, who plays an important role in the film, said that “it is completely a kids’ film and they are the heroes”.

“The film’s central theme is based on environment. It is very important that children are made aware about issues like global warming. If we try to teach them about such issues in a serious way, then perhaps they might not show that much interest,” he said.

“You make an adventurous film with an enjoyable story and children can relate to it, and in that, somehow you convey your thoughts about environment,” the actor noted.

Last year, Jimmy was seen in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’.

Sophie Choudry, Sophie Choudry news, Sophie Choudry song, Sophie Choudry news, entertainment news Sophie Choudry, who was born and brought up in London, felt that she was big and larger than everybody when she moved to Mumbai.

Singer-actress Sophie Choudry, who was born and brought up in London, felt that she was big and larger than everybody when she moved to Mumbai.

“In London, except for 2-3 desi girls, all there were tall, blonde and slim and I also felt that I was that. I felt I was big when I moved to Mumbai, when I started working for MTV. I found the girls in Mumbai very skinny, very small, I felt I am much larger than everybody.

“Maybe I’m more curvy, I’m slim but not like a ‘dandi’. Typical Indian body type is skinny legs and a tummy, but I never had the stomach, I had fit legs, a fit body,” said Sophie on a panel discussion on fitness and nutrition.

“Few people would comment on it and that’s a very bad health space to be in, because I was fitter than most people, maybe girls might have been much more skinnier than me, but they were not as fit as me, someone could be half your size, and she could not be fit at all, whereas you might be heavier, but you have muscle and not fat.

“I was confident about my body, I was different from other girls and that became my asset,” she added.

“If I do not work out or if I don’t do some kind of exercise, I’m miserable. And it’s not because I want to be thin, it’s within myself that don’t feel good, I don’t feel positive. I do not diet, I do not deprive myself of anything, but I maintain a basic healthy lifestyle.”

About three secret fitness tips she would like to share, she said: “My number one secret is consistency, second don’t do something because somebody else is doing because everybody is unique; understand your body and what works for you, and third, never starve yourself, you’ll actually become fatter.”

Sophie was last seen in a song in the Paresh Rawal-starrer “Dharam Sankat Mein”.

Vidya Balan, Kamala Surayya biopic, Kamala Surayya in biopic  Vidya Balan film, Vidya Balan upcoming film, entertainment news Vidya Balan will portray celebrated Indian-English writer Kamala Surayya, who shocked conventional minds with her bold writings, in a bilingual biopic.

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan will portray celebrated Indian-English writer Kamala Surayya, who shocked conventional minds with her bold writings, in a bilingual biopic.

The Malayalam-English movie, revolving around the eventful personal and literary life of Surayya, will be directed by national award-winning Malayalam director Kamal.

The writer, who wrote in English as Kamala Das and enriched Malayalam literature under the pseudonym Madhavikutty, had changed her name to Kamala Surayya after embracing Islam a few years before her death in 2009.

According to Kamal, the bilingual movie will not be a conventional, realistic biopic but a mixture of real-life and fictional situations. The shooting is expected to begin in October.

“Madhavikutty was a legendary writer and personality who questioned the hypocrisies of the society through her works. But, my movie will not be a completely realistic one. It will have real situations that happened in the life of the writer as well as fictional ones,” Kamal told PTI.

Born in an aristocratic Nair family in Punnayurkkulam in Thrissur district as daughter of eminent poet Balamani Amma, Surayya has left a rich body of literary work.

The most sensational, and arguably widely read of all of them, is her memoirs ‘Ente Katha’ (My story), which was initially propagated as her real-life story, but she herself clarified later that it was just an “imaginary work.”

Her other major works are ‘Childhood Memoirs’, ‘Summer in Calcutta’, ‘Alphabet of Lust’, ‘Descendants’ and collected poems.

Kamal said he had an informal discussion with Vidya Balan on the project two years ago and she was happy to accept it.

“I first talked to Vidya about this project two years ago. It was just an informal chat but she was happy and excited to accept the role,” Kamal, a national award-winning director, said.

Besides Vidya, Malayalam actor Prithviraj, who won his second state film award for Kamal-directed ‘Celluloid’, will also play a pivotal role in the movie.

“Prithviraj’s character will be a fictional one. But, I cannot divulge more details about it right now. I am yet to discuss with him about the character as he is busy with other projects,” Kamal said adding that the casting of other actors was yet to be finalised.

The ‘Meghamalhar’ director is also penning the script of the movie. “The script of the English version is complete while some more work is pending for the Malayalam one. I hope we can start the shooting of the movie by this October,” he said.

When asked whether the movie will evoke any controversy as Surayya’s life and writings had always been in the midst of controversies, the director said “it may happen. Let see…but I am not scared of any controversies.” he said.

Proud to see India’s representation in Hollywood: Freida Pinto

Freida Pinto, Freida Pinto film, Freida Pinto upcoming film, Freida Pinto news, Freida Pinto hollywood, entertainment news Freida Pinto is looking forward to see many more actors from the country find a footing in Hollywood in the coming years.

There has been a positive influx of Indian talents in Hollywood projects and actress Freida Pinto, who was catapulted to fame after Oscar-winning film “Slumdog Millionaire”, says she is proud to see her country getting representation and recognition globally.

Actors like Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Irrfan and Nimrat Kaur have bagged roles in international projects, thanks to the changing content be it in televison or films in the west.

Freida has lauded the trend and said she is looking forward to seeing many more actors from the country find a footing in Hollywood in the coming years.

“I definitely feel so proud that our country is getting recognition and representation. They are all being seen as global actors. But there is more to come and that is all I can think of,” Freida told PTI.

The 31-year-old actress criticised the categorisation of the roles of Indian actors in international projects as small or big as she feels the fact that they managed to get into the bustling, crowded LA-based film industry is incredible.

“I understand the sentiment when people say ‘chota role play kiya hain’. That is very convenient to say. The fact that someone has actually got through the door is enormous in itself. What a massive lottery game it is to be in the film industry. Let us not separate the two,” she said.

The actress herself has played non-lead roles in manyfilms and says every small contribution by any performer helps the film and must be taken into consideration.

“Not all actors started off playing lead roles. Every little contribution by any actor has to be absolutely taken into consideration. You have to account for it. It does not matter how big or small the role is.”

In her eight-year-long career, Freida has worked with the likes of Woody Allen, Danny Boyle, Michael Winterbottom, Tarsem Singh and Terrence Malick in “Knights Of Cup”, which released in the US this Friday.

Freida says everyday there is a constant need for validation, but she has learned not to chase after projects and does not regret things which she had to let go off.

“I don’t think I would have done anything differently because I am still going on. There are many things like first of all the constant need for validation and expectation, awards and money as well.

“Earlier, I used to think I wish I could pick that (role) but I have stopped doing that now. Everyone gets what they deserve. I believe everything happens in the right place at the right time. At the end of it you have to work hard.”

In her latest release “Knights Of Cup”, Freida has worked under the direction of Mallik, who rarely makes public appearances and the actress says when she asked the director about it he said he was too shy.

“I remember at the film’s premiere the actors were there. It is so interesting to see that the guy who makes all these films and he does not talk about them. He told me, ‘I am very shy’. He is very humble. It is incredible.”

For Freida it was a double treat – she not just got a chance to meet a man who is a “rare-sighting” but also bagged an opportunity to be a part of this beautiful journey.

“The process of filmmaking is so much more important to him than just the end product. When you do his film, each actor has a uniquely beautiful experience. I have learnt so much from the film. It was a brilliant experience and I am grateful for it,” she said.

Talking about her character Helen in the film, Freida says she plays a combination of a model, singer dancer and eventually a yogi, opposite Christian Bale’s Rick. Her on-screen persona is akin to her real-life situation, which is currently going through a transition.

“I am not just a model. My character is a singer, dancer then she becomes a yogi. It is a combination of different things. It is quite like what is happening in my own life. This girl and her life is in a state of transition. It is constantly moving from one point to another.”

He has given several chartbuster songs in Hindi and now music composer Arko Pravo Mukherjee wants to record an English album which is his dream project.

“I am very keen to record an English album. I am trying for that as of now. I’ve been working on it since two years and will go to Los Angeles to record the album. It’s a dream project,” Arko, who made debut with “Jism 2”, told PTI.

The 32-year-old music director recently composed the song “Saathi Re” for Shakun Batra-helmed “Kapoor & Sons”, which marks his singing debut as well.

Arko said he was apprehensive to sing but it was producer, Karan Johar, who asked him to go for it.

“Karan Johar heard my voice and he really liked it. He asked me to sing the song…I was very apprehensive because we have some amazing singers in our country. And secondly, I usually write the songs that I compose but this time Manoj Muntashir wrote it while I composed and sang. I am happy it turned out nice,” he said.

The musician, who has given hits like “Aaj Phir Tumpe Pyaar Aaya Hai” and “Allah Waariya” has mostly worked in movies with multiple-composers. However, he has no qualms about that and feels in no pressure to do a solo-music film.

“I can make a certain kind of music which I am best at. Somebody like Pritam da can compose all kinds of songs and is versatile. I can compose an entire soundtrack provided the music is in a certain space, like that of “Rockstar” and “Into the Wild”.

I don’t have any problem working in films with multiple composers. I think we all are friends and everyone has their own space in the sound track,” Arko said.

He will next compose a track for Katrina Kaif-Sidharth Malhotra starrer “Baar Baar Dekho”.

“In terms of offers, nothing interesting has come my way so far. But there is a want, a thought of going to the West. Right now I want to focus on my work here (Bollywood) and make a mark for myself. Then I do have thoughts of going ahead,” Alia told PTI.

Alia, the 22-year-old daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, made her Bollywood debut with Karan Johar’s “Student of the Year”. She later went on to give acclaimed performances in films like “Highway”, “2 States” and “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania”.

The actress has now become confident about her craft of acting.”I am genuinely confident, but I am not over -confident. I believe a little bit of nervousness and unsurety should be there, as that is how you go a long way,” she said.

Though Alia has gained popularity through her work, the actress’s family keeps her grounded.

“I think as long as you have a good support system that keeps you grounded, it is good. You may be famous and people want your autograph, take selfies with you, but you are a normal human being to your family.

“If you are surrounded by people who keep telling you that you are great, then you will go crazy. If my family and friends don’t like anything about my work, they tell me. It is important to have honest opinion around yourself,” she said.

But one does tend to lose earnestness after entering the world of glitz and glamour.

“…I used to be very unaware…Now I know things. This can be good or bad also in some ways,” she said.

“I have to take my words seriously, I can’t be an irresponsible speaker. I have to see how much good role model I am. At the same time I should be able to make mistakes, feel bad and cry,” she said.

Alia will next be seen in Karan Johar’s production “Kapoor & Sons”. Apart from this she is working with superstar Shah Rukh Khan in Gauri Shinde’s next and will also be seen in Shahid Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer “Udta Punjab”.

He may have portrayed negative characters before but actor Ronit Roy says he is excited to play a baddie in Hrithik Roshan starrer “Kaabil”.

The film, directed by Sanjay Gupta, is produced by Rakesh Roshan and also stars “Vicky Donor” actress Yami Gautam.

There were reports that Hrithik will play the role of a blind man who avenges the death of his girlfriend. While Ronit did not divulge any details, the actor said he is excited to play a negative role along with his brother Rohit.

“I am playing a negative role along with Rohit. I am excited for that. I don’t think I am at much liberty to talk about the plot. But besides dealing with us negative people, Hrithik will be dealing with another big negativity which for him is his positivity. That’s a very interesting part of the script,” Ronit told PTI.

The 50-year-old actor, known for his TV characters like Rishabh Bajaj and Mihir Virani, has previously done negative roles in “Udaan” and “Guddu Rangeela”.

Ronit will start shooting “Kaabil” by March-end and is happy to be part of such a big film.

“I am very fond of Hrithik as a human being and an actor. I have known Rakesh ji for many years and he is very fond of me too. It’s a great opportunity to work with Hrithik, Film Kraft, Sanjay and be a part of such a big film. In fact my brother is playing my brother in the film too, so I am looking forward.”

Ronit will be next seen in the fictional sports-drama “Saat Kadam”. Directed by Mohit Kumar Jha, the film also stars “Kai Po Che” actor Amit Sadh and Deeksha Seth.

“It is not entirely a sports film, but sports is a major part of it. There are a lot of love stories in it. The most primary is the relationship between a father and a son,
the second is between them and football and the third is between the family,” he said.

The film mainly revolves around the generation gap and the relationship between a father and his son. Ronit, who has earlier played a father in “2 States” said “Saat Kadam” will show him in a different light.

The actor feels even though football is not a popular sport in India, he is happy that other sports are catching up and becoming popular.

“Saat Kadam” is scheduled to release mid-year.
